HERO OF THE DAY: WAFFLE HOUSE CUSTOMER COOKS OWN MEAL AS STAFFER SLEEPS

Waffle House is one of those chain restaurants that's known for being open at all hours of the night. So on Thursday (November 30th) when Alex Bowen of West Columbia, South Carolina had a few drinks and then stopped into Waffle House, he was understandably upset when he waited and was not greeted by any staff members. He waited at the register for ten minutes, then checked outside for anyone, and then jumped over the counter to prepare his own food. Bowen admits he was "pretty inebriated" at the time, but once he saw the sleeping staff member he decided to whip himself up a "double Texas bacon cheese-steak melt with extra pickles." He also documents his experience with a Facebook post. After enjoying his meal he cleaned up and left, but he returned the next day to pay for his midnight meal. After hearing the story a Waffle House district manager thanked Bowen for pointing out a flaw in their business, and offered him a position as a Waffle House secret shopper.
