Twitch Replaces Virtual Metallica Concert With Elevator Music

Metallica put on a virtual performance for fans for BlizzCon 2021 this weekend… but something sounded off to fans tuning in on Twitch. To the virtual audience’s confusion – and delight – the live streaming platform dubbed over Metallica’s riffs with some generic elevator music.

Over the weekend, the heavy metal icons were performing for the opening ceremony for the annual gaming convention held by Blizzard Entertainment. The show was live streamed for free on the Twitch Gaming channel, and things were going well for a minute… until the band broke into “For Whom The Bell Tolls.”

That’s when suddenly, instead of rock n’ roll, fans started hearing muzak, which Twitch replaced Metallica’s live tunes with to avoid a Digital Millennium Copyright ACT (DMCA) takedown. While viewers would’ve rather been hearing Metallica, they got a kick out of the replacement music.
