We are not alone, and the U.S. government has known that for almost a century. Those were two of the key takeaways from yesterday’s testimony before a congressional subcommittee.
The anticipated testimony of three witnesses on the issue of the government’s involvement in UFO research was as historic as it was unusual. Retired Major David Grusch, former Navy pilot Ryan Graves, and former Navy commander David Fravor testified under oath in front of the House Oversight Committee, which committee chair Rep. Glenn Grothman opened by saying, “Welcome to the most exciting subcommittee in Congress this week.” There were a lot of questions from members of the committee, both Democrat and Republican, and the answers created a stir online.
Some of the things revealed by the witnesses in yesterday’s hearing:
- The revelation that got the most attention came as Grusch said he personally knew of “multiple colleagues” who were injured by UFOs, or by members of the government in connection with the craft. Grusch also said that “nonhuman biologics” were recovered from crashed UFOs. As you would expect, a Pentagon spokesperson told NBC News that Grusch’s seeming confirmation that aliens exist and his other claims are false.
- Fravor, who was one of the pilots involved in the “Tic-Tac” UFO case from 2004 involving the U.S. Nimitz, told the committee, “The technology that we faced is far superior to anything that we had, and there’s nothing we can do about it. Nothing.” Fravor was also asked if he thought the pilots could have defended themselves if the UFO had been hostile, and he quickly said no.
- When asked by Jared Moskowitz how alleged secret programs devoted to retrieving and reconstructing crashed UFOS were funded, Grusch said it’s “above congressional oversight” and funded by a “misappropriation of funds.” When Moskowitz asked if that meant money meant for other programs was going to the UFO effort instead, Grusch replied, “Yes, I have specific knowledge of that.”
- After saying that military and civilian pilots aren’t briefed on UFOs and discouraged from reporting them, several members of the committee told Graves that the hearing was just the first of what will be many, with Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the committee, saying “We should encourage more reporting and more study of UAPs.”
- Many of the representatives’ questions were answered by Grusch with a statement that he couldn’t discuss the answers in public, but would be glad to in a private meeting.
